National selectors have picked a strong squad with two “matchwinners” capable of securing Australia’s first men’s world T20 title, Mark Waugh says.
Head selector George Bailey last week revealed the 18 players Cricket Australia hopes will win the men’s T20 World Cup in the UAE in October at the nation’s seventh time of asking.
Names such as David Warner, Steve Smith and Marcus Stoinis return to the team having skipped tours of the Caribbean and Bangladesh, where a lack of depth was horribly exposed in consecutive T20 series defeats.
Aussie cricket great and former selector Waugh believes selectors Bailey and Justin Langer made the right calls, adding that Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell could be the difference-makers, while Mitchell Starc is also a serious threat.
