Damien Martyn is the latest past player to take aim at Cricket Australia’s decision to allow players to withdraw from the recent series defeats and believes the scrutiny surrounding Justin Langer’s position as head coach is misdirected.
Less than 24 hours after Langer’s former opening partner Matthew Hayden went into bat for the under-siege coach and fired a shot at CA CEO Nick Hockley, Martyn too said the governing body had to bear responsibility for the recent dismal results.
“You don’t prepare for World Cups by letting a major core of your team take a break from a tour … This is a professional job not hit and giggle in the park,” Martyn posted on Twitter.
The former elegant batsman was referring to the decision by CA to allow seven players to withdraw from the recent shock T20 series defeats to the West Indies and Bangladesh.
