The skill and pace of Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins and not the weight of carrying a nation will be Joe Root’s biggest concern during the Ashes, according to former England captain Nasser Hussain.
Not even an unbeaten 180 in the first-innings of the second Test, which came after a century and half-century in the opening Test, against India could save England at Lord’s.
His 33 was the top score in the second-innings as England was cleaned up inside two sessions for 120 on the final evening of play.
“Unfortunately, he’s just carrying the team at the moment Joe Root,” Hussain told Fox Sports’ Road to the Ashes Podcast.
Nor is that unusual though.
Like India’s Virat Kohli and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, England’s success often comes down to whether their star batsman fires.
