Rain and a wobbly start from England has handed Ireland a famous T20 World Cup triumph at the MCG, by five runs on DLS.
For just the third time in their history – following two ODI triumphs – the Irish managed to take down their rivals, in a major boilover that will shake Group 1 which also includes Australia.
England started their chase poorly, sitting 3-29 off 5.1 overs chasing a healthy target of 158, and while they began to recover in the middle order the pace was not quick enough.

Rain forced a stoppage of play when they were 5-105, five runs behind the DLS par score, with 14.3 overs gone.
Due to an early-match stoppage which cost the match 18 minutes, the English needed a quick resumption of play and did not get it.
