The Netherlands advanced to the T20 World Cup Super 12 stage despite their loss to Sri Lanka, after the UAE held on to upset Namibia and saved their tournament on Thursday night.
The Dutch went 2-1 in the group stage but were at risk of finishing third in Group A, behind the Sri Lankans and Namibians, after losing by 16 runs in Geelong.
But a late surge allowed the UAE to set a competitive total of 148 and then their bowlers left the African side 7-69 with just over seven overs remaining.

The drama wasn’t over though, with David Wiese (55 off 36) and Ruben Trumpelmann (25* off 24) combining for the best eighth-wicket partnership in T20 World Cup history. The slow pace of the UAE also saw them cop fielding restrictions in the last over.
