“Inexcusable”, “yuck” and “ordinary”, that is some of the reaction to Australia’s horror batting collapse to go down by 18 runs against the West Indies in St Lucia.
After the early loss of Aaron Finch, Australia was coasting at 3-89 with Mitch Marsh (51 off 33) well set after he and Matthew Wade (33 off 14) put on 36, before the tourists lost 6-19.
The batting collapse, with star batsmen Steve Smith, David Warner and Glenn Maxwell watching back home in Australia, once again revealed the frailties of the national T20 side just months out from the World Cup.
Australia is yet to win a T20 World Cup and for years they have struggled to find the right balance in their batting unit.
