England were left licking their wounds after a demoralising defeat in the second Test at Lord’s. Well, Indian great Sunil Gavaskar just rubbed salt into them.
Joe Root’s side went into the fifth day in the box seat. India had just one recognised batsman left in Rishabh Pant with only a modest lead on the board.
India’s tail, however, wagged as England resorted to a short ball barrage in retaliation for Jasprit Bumrah’s assault on Jimmy Anderson earlier in the match.
Their lead would quickly get out of hand and prompt a declaration. England just had to survive two sessions but were rolled for 120 to hand India victory.
