Canada qualifies for 2023 Women’s World Cup of Soccer

Team Canada has qualified for the 2023 Women’s World Cup of Soccer according to the Canadian Press on Friday. The tournament will take place in Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20, 2023. It will be the first time that two separate nations are hosting the Women’s World Cup of Soccer.

Canada qualified through the 2022 CONCACAF Women’s Soccer Championship in Guadalupe, Mexico on Friday by beating Panama 1-0. Canadian Olympic gold medalist Julia Grosso of Vancouver, British Columbia scored the lone Canadian goal in the 64th minute. Grosso generated fame when she scored the game-winning goal on penalty kicks in the gold medal game in women’s soccer at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021. Canada beat Sweden 3-2 on penalty kicks.
