Cameron Smith can still win FedEx Cup Championship, rankings, explained, prize money, Adam Scott, field

Cameron Smith remains a strong chance of claiming this year’s FedEx Cup Championship and taking home a lazy $AU25.6 million despite withdrawing from the BMW Championship.

The Open champion, who has been heavily linked to a switch to the LIV Golf Series ever since lifting the Claret Jug, withdrew on Tuesday AEST from the second FedEx Cup playoff event citing a back issue.

Although the injury setback will make it difficult for the 28-year-old to win the FedEx Cup Championship a week later in Atlanta, his strong position on the standings means he’s still firmly in the picture to finish on top should he take to the tee at East Lake Golf Club.

The Queenslander is currently more than 1000 points behind St Jude Championship winner Will Zalatoris and world No.1 Scottie Scheffler in third spot, but he is likely to still start inside the top 10, and possibly top five, at the Championship…
