Toxteth’s Abdi Jama played a starring role as Great Britain’s men confirmed their place in the wheelchair basketball quarter-finals with a comfortable 69-57 victory over Iran.
The Iranians started quickly but Britain got into the game and did not relinquish the lead, the long-range shots from Jama key to strengthening the advantage.
Terry Bywater top-scored with 18 points as Britain saw it through after a slow start, with his three-pointer shortly after coming on a turning point in the match.
Gregg Warburton then moved Great Britain into the lead, drawing an unsportsmanlike foul before scoring two free throws to ensure his side ended the quarter 20-15 in front.
