Bec Allen was on fire for the hosts in Sydney with 16 points, while Sam Whitcomb chipped in a useful 10.
However, some gloss was taken off the victory in the closing seconds when Opals’ linchpin Allen was helped off the court with an injury.
In the earlier fixture, Gabby Williams was top scorer with 14 points as France breezed past Mali 74-59.
The final match of the day saw Canada extend their unbeaten streak with a 70-56 win over Japan.
The North American’s star playerw were Bridget Carleton and Laeticia Amihere, who recorded 19 and 10 points respectively.
It comes after the Olympic Champions USA continued the defence of their world title by becoming the first team to book their place in the quarter-finals with a win over China on Saturday.
