Basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal has taken another swipe at Australian Ben Simmons for his poor start to the new NBA season, delivering the Aussie a message of tough love over his mental struggles.
Simmons has returned to the court for the Brooklyn Nets after missing the entirety of last season after refusing to play for Philadelphia then struggling with a back injury after his trade to New York.
But the gun-shy Australian has been a shadow of his best self, lacking aggression and intensity in offence and fouling out in two of his first three games – picking up 14 fouls for just 17 points in those opening trio of losses.
Speaking on ‘The Big Podcast with Shaq’, O’Neal said: “I want to apologise for being late. I was in the hospital. I was sick. I’m sick of watching Ben Simmons play. Five points, eight rebounds and another fouled-out game (against Memphis), way to go Ben….
