Australians at The Open, Cameron Smith, Adam Scott, Min Woo Lee, first round scores

Aussie Min Woo Lee was one of the earliest group of The Open’s first round, teeing off at 6.35am local time. But his 4am wake-up was more than a little bizarre, with Lee revealing he was woken by video of Tiger Woods’ victory at the 2000 Open at St Andrews on his laptop.

Lee shot a three-under 69 in the first round, apparently taking some inspiration from Woods’ brilliance at the same course two decades prior.

“It’s a weird story,” Lee said about his strange wake-up, half an hour before his alarm. “I was watching Tiger in 2000 St Andrews before I closed the laptop at 8.30pm and fell asleep, but it was playing when it was closed somehow. It woke me up at 4am; it was a good wake-up call I guess.

“I had a quick breakfast and got going. I was a bit late for my warm-up but you can’t wake up earlier than 4:00am.”
