Australian rugby team news, Jake Gordon to start, Tate McDermott, James O’Connor

Dave Rennie has made his thoughts very clear, Jake Gordon is a Test-ready halfback and Tate McDermott is not.

Gordon, who was given very little chance of starting at the start of camp after suffering a MCL injury in the penultimate match of the Super Rugby competition, will wear the No.9 jersey against France on Wednesday night in Brisbane.

McDermott, the 22-year-old from the Sunshine Coast who finished the Super season in strong form, is likely to come off the bench.

The easy decision would have been to give McDermott his first start and see what the next generation is capable of producing against an inexperienced French side and allow him to grow before facing the All Blacks later in the year.
