After her second ACL rupture in nine months, Kristy Wallace was simply focused on walking without pain, not playing basketball. Her comeback has defied the odds, writes LINDA PEARCE.

During the bleakest moments of her 870 days between basketball games, Kristy Wallace never felt the process of coming back from a second ACL rupture in nine months was too hard.

It wasn’t that.

“I just didn’t think it was possible. I didn’t think my body was capable,’’ says the Opals point guard, who later this month in Sydney will play in her first FIBA Women’s World Cup.

“I would always go two steps forward, two steps back. Two steps forward, four steps back. I just thought, ‘My body won’t be able to do this anymore, and that’s OK, I’ll do something else. I’ll go to uni, whatever’.’’
