Ash Johnson becomes 18th Aboriginal player to debut for Collingwood

Ash Johnson will make his AFL and Collingwood debut against the Adelaide Crows this weekend.

The 24-year-old hails from Halls Creek, Western Australia and was selected by Collingwood in the 2021 mid-season draft. 

An explosive 193cm forward, Johnson enjoyed stints in the WAFL and country Victoria before following his brother, Adelaide’s Shane McAdam, to South Australia. He booted 13 goals from six matches for Sturt in the SANFL last year.

Johnson has played 7 games for Collingwood’s VFL side this season, kicking 8 goals. His best performance came against Geelong in round 2 where he kicked four goals and took nine marks with 16 disposals.

Johnson played for Scotch Old Collegians in 2018, he impressed kicking 41 majors from 15 matches while also being crowned a premiership player which ultimately helped him be signed as a top-up player for the Crows’ SANFL side in…
